Fishing

Fishing opportunities abound in local rivers and streams as well as high altitude mountain lakes.  Most fishing is done with flies but many areas are suitable for other tackle and methods.  Catch and release is highly encouraged.  Fly fishing is clearly the best way to safely return fish to the water unharmed.

Golf

You're not likely to find a prettier place to golf than in Telluride.  Also consider the nearby Fairway Pines golf course in Ridgway Colorado.

Hiking

An abundance of hiking trails are available in the beautiful San Juan mountains.  Everything from easy to very strenuous hiking trails are available, some starting right in Telluride and Mountain Village.

Jeeping and 4 wheel drive roads

The mining heritage of the Telluride area has left a network of high mountain roads for sightseeing by 4 wheel drive vehicle.  Maps are available.  Use your own vehicle (don't even think about the family sedan) or several outfitters in the area offer jeep rentals and tours.

Kayaking and river rafting

Whitewater rafting and kayaking trips are available on local rivers, the San Miguel and Dolores rivers.  The abundance of winter snow provides substantial spring runoff making for exciting white water experiences.

Mountain biking

Like mountain hiking there are numerous trails from easy to challenging, both 2 track and single track.  Rental bikes, maps and tours with guides are available.
